I was able to get it to install and function (with 2 adapters a FW400>800 and a FW800>thunderbolt) but that wasn't the problem. I can verify from my personal experience last year attempting to use a digi003 rack with my Macbook with thunderbolt2.

But in reality, I do not need to upgrade my system, my interface nor my powerful PC. I'd possibly end up facing having to buy another interface if replacing the PC, and I'd give this major consideration.

I'm running it with an older 12 core/48 GB ram Lenovo ThinkStation D-20 with Win 7 64 bit pro, a perfect marriage! If I was to replace this PC, and go with Win 10, it would be a crap-shoot that my Tascam FW-1884 will run properly, if at all, though I've read some have theirs running with Win 10. I myself use an old Tascam FW-1884 firewire 400 based interface/controller/mixer. One good reason why I won't use laptop for music, is that a desktop can have all kinds of add-on cards, laptops are limited. I tend to be more tied to my interfaces, and could care less about my OS, as long as my PC is powerful enough, so I'd just about always go for a computer that will fully work with my interface. For you, either replace your interface, or use a computer that is compatible with your beloved interface. When you have a computer & interface that you love, and now you want to upgrade one of them, you may end up having to replace both. This is the problem with upgrading, and not thinking things through fully. This is by far the best approach.or else seek out the 2 or 3 adapter cables named above (to use with your up to date MBP)

You may have to download the Presonus drivers compatible with his OSX from the Presonus website.but if you upgrade the OSX to a modern one like High Sierra or Mojave there is a good chance his MBP won't have the CPU power to run it.so leave it as it is.

Yes as you suggest your father's early gen MBP will work with your interface.just find out what OSX it is working with and Do Not Update It !! Leave it on the OSX it currently has (most likely OSX 10.6.8 Snow Leopard ?)

this is an entirely non-functioning product !! USB and Firewire are fundamentally incompatible.there is no way that the data packet stream will correspond between the 2 protocols.ignore this WILL NOT WORK. Will this work or not?
